Her Royal 5-ness: A Princess Party for Willow's Fifth Birthday

A cozy at-home celebration filled with bounce houses, royal visitors, and local vendor magic

By Brittany Marsh, Publisher of Macaroni KID SE Kansas City, MO October 6, 2026

I say it every year, but I truly cannot believe how fast this girl is growing. Willow just turned five, and after last year's big play-space party, we decided to scale things back and keep it close to home ... just her very best friends, our living room, and a backyard full of squeals. (Okay, okay so we didn't scale it back, we just kept it close to home. I guess it's just not in me to do small parties!)

Either way ... the theme was an easy one. If you've met Willow, you know she has been a princess in training since roughly birth!

While the author received goods, services, and/or compensation from the businesses mentioned, all thoughts and opinions shared are entirely their own.

Outdoor Entertainment

For the backyard, Happy Jumps BJ brought their sweetheart bounce house: an all-white, heart-arched 15x15 setup with a slide and a ball pit tucked in. Next to it they set up a 10-foot clear balloon bubble filled with soft pastel balloons.

They also handled the balloon garland, which we intentionally coordinated to match the balloon bubble, and that little bit of planning made the whole setup photograph beautifully.

A Royal Visit

For indoor entertainment, we welcomed a visit from Arendelle. Princess At My Party's very own Anna and Elsa joined us for an hour of story time, a scavenger hunt and princess makeup for each guest.

Watching a row of little girls line up for their "royal glam" was easily the highlight of my morning.

The Banner

Kyra Signed It hand-painted a 3x5 banner that read "Her Royal 5-ness". Against the warm Kraft paper, the pink script, lavender block lettering, gold crown, pink castle and a swag of painted bows totally popped!

It was the perfect focal point for our living room and the piece everyone commented on as they walked in to our home.

Front Yard Signage

Before anyone even parked, Yard Props KC made it clear whose day it was. Their display filled our front lawn with princess cutouts, a big number five, balloon props, and Willow's name spelled out in oversized letters, was the kind of thing that makes a kid shriek when she looked out the window in the morning.

Sweets Fit for a Princess

Lotsa Cakes handled the cake and the dessert tray, and the detail work was unreal. Chocolate-covered cookies with princess cameos set inside gold baroque frames, each finished with a tiny satin bow and a sugar rose. Cakescicles in pastel pink and yellow. Pretzel rods dipped in pastel and stamped with gold letters. Every piece matched the palette exactly.

Party Favors

Brynn, owner of Color Cove, created paint kits for every kiddo to take home: ceramic princesses and crowns that fit the theme perfectly. I love a favor that doesn't end up in the trash by dinnertime, and these gave the kids one more activity to stretch the celebration into the week.

Small-scale ended up being exactly right this year. Shorter guest list, shorter guest list of logistics, and a whole lot more time actually watching Willow enjoy her day. Once again, I'm reminded how much talent we have right here in our own backyard. Every one of these businesses is local, and every one of them made this easier and more beautiful than I could have on my own.

This party was truly fit for her royal five-ness.
